Bishop Joseph Warren Walker, III, Author, No Opportunity Wasted: The Art of Execution

Remember when you were young and hungry, with the future just beyond your doorstep? Each day was an opportunity to fulfill your purpose, to achieve your dream. You ate, breathed and slept success – when you slept at all. There were 24 hours in a day to move you closer to your goal. Why waste a minute?

For me, time is a precious resource and I know I am not alone. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and not take the time to connect with suppliers and customers. This week, in the midst of a grueling work schedule, I decided to show up at a trade show in Chicago (a three-hour drive from my office) where our customers were exhibiting. Prior to this show we created a variety of videos for them to use on their booths. In addition, we were going to send crews on site to videotape future communications. It would have convenient to finish the work, send off the videos and let my employees do the rest.

Does your organization’s professional development program offer time management courses?

How is that going for you?

If you’re like a lot of businesses, you’re probably footing a rather expensive bill for such training programs, with the expectation that employees will return with skills for working more efficiently and productively.

Unfortunately, if you’re also like a lot of businesses, you’re probably not seeing the greatest of results.

In fact, I’ve talked to many leaders who find that time management training isn’t having any impact.
