Living through the 1060's and 1070's would have convinced you that there were no difference between the sexes, but I think we have evolved since then. And while there are no absolutes between men in women in business or regarding finances there are plenty of generalities we can take a look at and how the genders differ in their views and perception of money, investments and business.

You can live your life by one of two philosophes. You can choose to be the exception to any rule or you can choose to be the rule. There are always exceptions: JFK was the first-and last-Catholic in the White House and Chrissie Evert had a winning unorthodox backhand. But both of these are the exception not the rule.

The rule about the Internet is that you have to offer substance. There is so much information available at the touch of finger that flashy technology is not enough to win friends or customers. You have to have substance.

Coaching sports is like running a small business. You’ve got lots of personalities, each pulling at your attention, time and resources. You’ve got the end goal—the title, the win, the successful practice, even. You’ve got competing interests, noise and emotions clouding your view. And you’ve got so much promise right in front of you, be it the players or that burgeoning business—and, sometimes, it can seem absolutely limitless.

Ethics brings to mind dusty volumes of impenetrable text, heated arguments that go nowhere, and an overbearing concern with political correctness. But my thirty years as an ethics consultant has taught me something different. Ethics is really about releasing the forces of innovation in an organization. The reason for this is simple. To have ethics in an organization is to have ways in which employees can jump the line of command without fear of reprisal. And this same jump-the-line-of-command philosophy can make innovation a powerful organizational force.
