I call meditation “The Wizard of Oz” or my “behind the scenes” component to my business mantra of “make a lot of money, help a lot of people, and have a lot of fun”. I start off every day mediating for twenty minutes. I find the practice so important on so many levels.

If you haven’t meditated before, it’s akin to when you first decide to start working out.You begin slowly. You keep the threshold low.

I recently had the distinct pleasure to listen to a great speaker at a conference. I thought it would be the same, blah, blah, economic or business update. Boy, was I surprised. The speaker’s name was Anthony Robles and he was a wrestler at Mesa High School with a 96-0 record, a 2-time Arizona State Champion and a high school National Champion. After high school, he walked onto the Arizona State University wrestling team to prove to them, and to the world, that anything was possible. Through trials and hardships, both on and off the wrestling mat, he finished as a 3-time All-American and the 2011 NCAA National Champion in his weight class. Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? What you don’t know was that he was only born with one leg.

I can't say that I have learned and applied the following tips throughout the 25 years I have been in business as the founder of MacNair Travel Management, but like my other hobbies such as mountaineering, skills are built with experience. I recently trekked to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas – a mere 18,500 feet – and in doing so I reflected on the parallels between running a successful business and mountaineering. Three key areas that translate are: Aim High, Climb High, and Be High. The club of those brave souls that have summited Everest is smaller than the club of business owners who have been successful for 25 years or more, but they are both quite a challenge involving a great deal of dedication, skill, and endurance.  Some of the key parallels skills include:
